The situation

An engineer at Halvora raised a grievance about her line manager. The first meeting was held without notice, the notes were incomplete and the outcome letter never arrived. By the time the Head of People called me, the employee had instructed a solicitor and an appeal was overdue.

What I did

  • Reviewed the file and told Halvora plainly which steps had gone wrong and what that meant for a tribunal claim.
  • Set out a three-week plan: a fresh hearing with an independent chair, a proper investigation and a written outcome.
  • Prepared the invitation letters, interview questions and outcome template.
  • Agreed a fixed fee for the whole plan before any work started.

The outcome

The grievance was reheard and closed within three weeks. The employee accepted the outcome, no claim was issued, and Halvora now runs every grievance from the same checklist.

I came to Owen after a grievance had already gone wrong. He told me exactly where we stood, what to fix first and what it would cost. Three weeks later it was closed.
