The situation

Ondrell was moving a warehouse to a new site, and 18 roles would no longer exist. The operations team had never run a collective consultation and wanted to treat people fairly without months of uncertainty.

What I did

  • Mapped the legal timetable for collective consultation and the notifications the business had to make.
  • Wrote the selection criteria, the scoring guide and the letters for each stage.
  • Trained six managers to hold the consultation meetings, with a script for the hard questions.
  • Reviewed every score before decisions were confirmed.

The outcome

The consultation finished in seven weeks. Five people moved into new roles, the rest left on enhanced terms, and no tribunal claims followed.

Owen gave our managers a script, a timeline and a reason for every step. People were upset, but nobody felt ambushed.
